FORSYTH COUNTY – Cheeky, a new restaurant with a chef-driven menu of Latin influenced cuisine.
In addition to its cuisine, Cheeky is the first restaurant to offer the DraftMagik PYOB (Pour Your Own Beer) experience. Guests can serve themselves directly from taps at several of the tables, or from J.C.’s PourHouse, a “wall of beers.”
But parents need not worry – those taps won’t operate before a server either activates the tableside taps, or gives a guest an RFID card that allows activiation of the taps at J.C.’s PourHouse. IDs will be checked. To further control the taps, the restaurant has put limits on how much beer can be poured at a table, or by an individual at the wall. Just as they can activate the taps, the servers and manager can stop the taps from pouring.
Cheeky is the brainchild of Jose Hevia and his team. Hevia is a well-known restaurateur in the Atlanta restaurant scene, as a founding member of the popular Taco Mac restaurants and Cheeky Taqueria.
Hevia said Cheeky Taqueria in Suwanee has been open for about two years and has beer tables, but those only have a single beer.
Four larger tables allow bigger groups, but dividers allow just four people to sit down at a beer table.
“I’m sure the 21 to 34 year olds will be tapping away,” Hevia said.
The entire system runs with the use of the iTouch. Each group of taps is controlled by an iTouch embedded in a lucite case.
“If you want to try a beer you don’t know you don’t have to commit to a pint, you can have just two ounces,” he said.
“One distinction we want to make is it’s not self-service beers, it’s Pour Your Own Beer. This is a full-service, controlled environment,” Hevia said.
Cheeky’s creative menu is prepared daily in the scratch kitchen. From Tuna Bocados to Crab Cake Tacos, the chefs have put together an array of dishes that are nearly all priced under $10.
